In Vienna, Austria, the divorce rate last year was 65.9 percent. Little wonder, perhaps, that what is being billed as the ‘world’s first divorce fair’ should be held there.
Scheduled for October 27-28, the fair will be followed by another five “[tag]divorce fairs[/tag]” around the country in the winter and spring of 2008.
Aimed at “couples who have of late separated”, the fair will bring together the usual lawyers, mediators, notaries and psychologists, but exhibitors will also include real estate agents, car salesmen, travel agencies and spa centres in order to offer a true “new beginning” to new divorcees.
The man behind the project, Anton Barz, used to run wedding fairs. But after hearing about the difficulties of divorce, he came up with this idea, which he named “new beginning”.
And he could well be onto something in a country where 48.9 percent of married couples chose to end their marriage in 2006.
But he’s taking precautions. Saturday will be reserved for men while Sunday will be open to women only.
I wonder how the exhibitors will switch their approaches from one day to the next? It might be very interesting!
